A man from Fordsburg, Johannesburg, was charged with three counts of murder after he shot and killed three hijackers during an attempted carjacking. The incident occurred while he was driving with his cousin to purchase hunting equipment.
According to court testimony at the South Gauteng High Court, the accused was picked up by his cousin and was on the way to a firearm dealer when their vehicle was suddenly blocked by a Volkswagen Golf, which screeched to a halt in front of their car. The accused sensed an imminent hijacking attempt.
He described hearing gunshots and seeing a muzzle flash from inside the Golf. As his cousin shouted, “shoot them,” he fired back, exchanging several shots with the hijackers. One of the hijackers exited their vehicle during the shootout. Eventually, the attackers ceased fire.
