Ian Cameron from Firearms Guardian and Dr. Llewelyn Curlewis , an expert in criminal law in South Africa, were recently invited to speak at KragDag where they discussed self-defence in South Africa.
Llewelyn Curlewis explains the difference between self-defence and necessity: “It is simply a fact in South Africa that criminals are emboldened by our ineffective justice system and police. Self-defence means you are protecting your own life, but necessity goes much further than that. Self-defence also includes protecting your community, you are entitled to protect your community, family, and property. There are, of course, parameters within this law, including that there must be a minimum amount of violence involved and that there must be an immediate danger, etc.”

Cameron and Curlewis agree that it is in the interest of all firearm owners to educate themselves about their rights.
