Among the dead was notorious mob figure and businessman <strong>Sphamandla Mabonga<\/strong>, who attempted to bypass the restaurant\u2019s strict no-firearms policy alongside two armed bodyguards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to eyewitness accounts and various reports, Mabonga and his men were denied entry due to their firearms. Despite this, they returned armed, sparking a deadly exchange of gunfire with the restaurant\u2019s private security team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As chaos unfolded, <strong>two patrons<\/strong>, a <strong>security officer<\/strong>, and a <strong>Community Policing Forum (CPF)<\/strong> member sustained serious injuries. Mabonga, critically wounded in the crossfire, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. His two bodyguards were killed on the scene. Police reports confirmed the recovery of an <strong>AK-47 assault rifle<\/strong> at the location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Security Guard Praised for Heroic Self-Defence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Firearms Guardian<\/strong> has praised the courage and quick thinking of the private security officer involved in the incident. According to their statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe realised that Mabonga\u2019s mob posed a lethal threat. Without decisive action, the shootout could have turned into a massacre. His composure and precise response saved numerous lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Legal Expert Confirms Lawful Self-Defence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Advocate <strong>Henk Nolte<\/strong>, Director at Firearms Guardian, stated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis incident is a textbook case of lawful private defence. The officer acted to repel an unlawful and imminent attack. Based on the circumstances, I doubt the State would even pursue prosecution. In fact, I\u2019d be surprised if charges are brought at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nolte emphasized that <strong>South African law allows for self-defence<\/strong>, even on behalf of others, when these six conditions are met:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6 Legal Requirements for Self-Defence in South Africa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The attack must be unlawful.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It must have commenced or be imminent.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It must threaten a legal interest (life\/property).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defence must be necessary.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defensive action must target the attacker.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Only reasonable force may be used.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe security officer satisfied every condition,\u201d Nolte said. \u201cHis actions were not only legal, but commendable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">South Africans Must Be Prepared<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With civil unrest and violent crime rising, South Africans must be ready to defend themselves\u2014<strong>legally<\/strong>. Nolte warns:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere may come a time when responsible firearm owners have no option but to fight fire with fire.
